Name of Position:
Yacht Engineer


Position Duties:
Working directly under the Captain the Yacht engineer will be responsible for the mechanical well-being of the deck and engine of the yacht.


Specifically:
This will include maintenance of the main propulsion engines, the generators, the water maker, the electrical system, the fresh water supply, the running gear, the ground tackle, the fuel supply and the various hydraulic systems of the yacht. The engineer will also be responsible for the maintenance of the "Water toys", such as Jet skis, outboard ski-boats and sailing boats as well as the yacht tender and launching crane.

Familiarity with mainstream diesel manufacturers such as Cat, Volvo, Man, John Deer, Westerbeke, GM and Mitsubishi will be useful.

From time to time it will be necessary to assist with docking the vessel upon arrival and departure and various shore-side duties such as assisting with re-supply and security.

Note: The success of a mega yacht operation is heavily dependent on crew performance and their ability to work as a team. All crew members are expected to offer a degree of flexibility with their employment. This might necessitate accompanying charter guests, sourcing supplies for the yacht or standing watch at various times.


Reporting line:
This position will report to the Captain.


Compensation:
Compensation can vary between vessels but this position is expected to offer a starting salary of US$60,000 to US$100,000 per year for a licensed engineer and between US$40,000 to US$60,000 for an unlicensed engineer. In addition, some positions offer a benefit program, air fare to and from the yacht and a share in the gratuities from charter work.

*Compensation will vary on the degree of experience, the size of the yacht and the owner.

Location of work: The Mega yachts where these positions are being offered are mostly located in both the Caribbean and in the Mediterranean. Other positions come available in other regions and will depend on availability and experience of the crew and the capability of the yachts.
