Name of Position:
Yacht Chef
Position Duties:
Reporting to the Captain, the Chef will be required to administrate the entire food program for the owners, the charterers and the crew.
The Chef will also work with the Chief Steward when liaising with the owners and the charter guests before and after they board the yacht and then deliver a service, which matches their expectations.
Due to the nature of the Yachting industry the chef will be required to pre-plan for offshore passages and cruising where the required provisions are not always available. This will necessitate developing resources and relationships with suppliers in ports and regions along the route.
The chef will be required to research the preferences of the owners and guests and deliver a food program, which matches their expectations. Familiarity with the various dietary regimes and knowledge of eating disorders will be an asset.
The Chef will liaise with the Chief Steward on all matters concerning food service and quality. The chef can expect help from the staff on board for preparation and cleanup. Position requires the appropriate formal chef training designation, minimum five years experience in a fine dining environment, ability to manage food costs and prepare provisioning budgets, computer literacy, innate food sense and flair for presentation and the ability to communicate in English.
From time to time it will be necessary to assist with docking the vessel upon arrival and departure and various shore-side duties such as assisting with re-supply and security.
Note: The success of a mega yacht operation is heavily dependent on crew performance and their ability to work as a team. All crew members are expected to offer a degree of flexibility with their employment. This might necessitate accompanying charter guests, sourcing supplies for the engineer or standing watch at various times.
Reporting line:
This position will report to the Captain.
Compensation:
Compensation* can vary between vessels but this position is expected to offer a starting salary of US$36,000 to US$90,000 per year . In addition, some positions offer a benefit program, air fare to and from the yacht and a share in the gratuities from charter work.
*Compensation will vary on the degree of experience, the size of the yacht and the owner.

Location of work:
The Mega yachts where these positions are being offered are mostly located in both the Caribbean and in the Mediterranean. Other positions come available in other regions and will depend on availability and experience of the crew and the capability of the yachts.
